My Dad and Your Thoughts and Prayers

My Dad and Your Thoughts and Prayers

My biological father, a police officer, passed away many years ago in a private plane crash just on the outskirts of Asheville in North Carolina. My mother and I moved to Miami and she later remarried John, my stepfather. I have always considered him my father. He had a massive heart attack a few years into their marriage and the doctors told him in the ER that it would be a miracle if he made it. He did. He only had a portion of his heart left that was functioning though and that meant quite a bit of discipline in eating and exercising. I remember many years of his health food diets and daily power walks in the park near our home in Miami Beach. He has gotten older now and the back and other pains he deals with make the walks more than difficult.

In the middle of a personal crisis of my own, I received a phone call from my mother this week that my father is in the IC unit. They are running tests now but it appears that he has had another heart attack. It was a mild one and we are thankful for that but when you have already been through a massive heart attack, even a minor issue can actually become a major issue.

I have been praying for another dad recently. He is the dad of
Scarlett Lillian. As I read through her blog posts about her dad, they touch my heart and I realize just how hard it is to face a family members illness. I have asked many friends and family members to pray for Scarletts dad, Mr. Williams and now I ask you to add my own dad to your prayers too. I have lost my faith and beliefs over the years and decided just last week that I want to make some drastic changes in my life and get back to the foundations that I was raised on. I want my children to know the love I knew in my church and the people in it. I am already being tested. However, my family is strong and we will get through this together. This verse has been in my mind for many years and I have seen so many references to it in times like these. I will share it again.

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matthew 18:20

Thank you for the emails that are already pouring in and for your prayers. My family and I appreciate them more than you know.
